A Blurb About the Constructive Nature of Conflict

Updated: May 1

Conflict is a mechanism for learning how to love one another better.

When we sweep conflict under the rug, the conflict has a tendency to fester and grow when its neglected, turning into resentment, emotional isolation, boundary confusion, and disconnection.

When we avoid conflict it typically makes a bigger mess. Sometimes when we're avoiding a conflict we think we're preventing conflict. Preventing conflict however is not the same thing as avoiding conflict. When we work towards prevention, we're working towards healthier outcomes.

In the same way that there are constructive and destructive forms of anger, there are also constructive and destructive forms of conflict. Avoiding all conflict, like avoiding all anger, prevents your ability to grow and to allow others to grow from the constructive nature of conflict.
